When I photographed David Bowie for Blender Magazine
When I photographed David Bowie for Blender Magazine I was told I'd only have 15min. The magazine wanted him shot against basic white background. I didn't want to blow my shot with Bowie so I saved a slice of time to shoot this abstract background. CEO photography is a race against the clock to produce an iconic photo - always be ready to capture that moment.

Photographing the Building of the Second Avenue Subway →
For seven years now I have been shooting for the construction company Skanska. It started when I worked on a series of portraits of their senior executives. That job has led to working with a number of different departments within the organization. It has taken me to the tops of bridges and below the streets of Manhattan. Here is a blogpost http://blog.usa.skanska.com/a-subway-line-100-years-in-the-making/ featuring my work.

New York Public Library Trustee Photo
Not all the jobs I do are corporate. Many of the photo I shoot are for philanthropic organizations. Personally, The New York Public Library has been one of my favorite places. That is why I was thrilled to get a call from a previous client who had worked at Montefiore Hospital asking if I would shoot the annual board of trustees photo at the NYPL.

Executive Photos NYC: Skanska Safety Week Industrial Photography at the World Trade Center
Skanska, one of the world's leading project development & construction groups, hired Executive Photos NYC for on-site industrial photography to commemorate Safety Week, which took place this year on April 25th - May 1st, 2016.
Bill Flemming, president & CEO of Skanska Building, visited job sites with peers from Hunter Roberts & Lend Lease, and discussed safety protocol, with the goal of providing more consistent and safer protocol across several construction companies.
Flemming mentioned, as quoted from the Skanska blog post, "To me, we are not successful if we put our workers at risk to deliver projects. We work safely, or not at all."
This is the 12th Safety Week celebrated by Skanska & the 3rd annual Construction Industry Safety Week, where 50 other construction firms have pledged to thank construction workers for their safety protocol and inspire additional vigilance and care.
In order to be an on-site industrial photographer in NYC, one must be constantly on the look-out while navigating potentially dangerous situations. One must be comfortable climbing ladders & narrow stairs with equipment, and having an assistant is advisable. The industrial photographer documents construction as it's happening in a documentary fashion, and then additionally takes portraits when the job requires.
You can read more about Skanska's commitment to safety and see Executive Photos NYC Photographs here.

Margaret Sullivan, Public Editor of the New York Times, accepts position as Media Editor for The Washington Post
Margaret Sullivan, Public Editor for the New York Times, has officially stepped down to take a new position at The Washington Post. She began her tenure in 2012, and held the position longer than the five other public editors who have held the position, and was the first woman hired for the position.
New corporate headshots are vital when changing positions, especially for public figures. Executive Photos NYC made sure her photoshoot was easy, enjoyable, and provided quick results - and is happy to have had her as a client.
Images: Phase 1 of the Moynihan Station project nears completion in the historic James A. Farley Post Office
Moynihan Station is to occupy the current Farley Post Office on 34th Street to help alleviate pedestrian congestion for the Amtrak, New Jersey Transit & Long Island Railroad in Penn Station, across the street. While the plan was conceived 25 years ago, ground was broken on the project in 2010 and Phase 1 is expected to be completed this year, in 2016.
Skanska, one of the worlds leading civil construction groups, hired Michael Benabib, industrial photographer, to make images of both employees and of the construction project . After donning hard hats and reflective vests, we entered the construction site – to document the progress on phase 1, which involves installing an emergency ventilation system and new entrances to the building, as well as photograph the empty spaces where phase 2 will begin.

The James A. Farley Post Office Building was designated a New York City Landmark in 1966, so extra care on this project is made to keep the external façade of the building intact.
Ask Executive Photos NYC: What should I wear to my corporate headshot session?
To which, we ask right back at you: What are you trying to say? If you are a lawyer, or CEO, a suit and tie is often worn for your corporate portrait. However, if you’re at a forward thinking marketing startup, maybe you can wear something more tailored, and casual. However the case, we recommend looking up coworkers and competitors in your field to take a look at what their personal branding is if you are unsure.
That being said – there are a few guidelines. (Keep on reading to learn more)
MENS CORPORATE HEADSHOTS
- Wear your favorite suit that doesn’t bunch up when you sit down in it. Avoid distracting patterns and colors. When in doubt, think more conservatively.
- Ties look best when they are a shade in between the suit color and the shirt color. (ex. A black suit, a white shirt, and a blue-grey tie). Avoid repeating patterned or tightly stripped ties.
- If you’re looking for a more casual look, avoid polo shirts and T-shirts. A colored, button up shirt is a good in-between for a professional, but casual look. Darker colors for fairer skin tones and lighter colors for darker skin tones are a good choice, if you are unsure about what color shirt to wear.
WOMENS CORPORATE HEADSHOTS
- While you have more options for variety in your nature of dress, make sure your outfit remains classic – on trend styling, however corporate, can look out of date very quickly.
- Just as with mens corporate headshots, avoid loud patterns. Bright colors are acceptable, although it is inadvisable to wear red. (Red is the color your eye is most attracted to in any photograph.)
- Keep jewelry minimal, so that it doesn’t distract from your face.
- A little bit of texture in the fabric of what you choose to wear can add a nice accent to your headshot.

Yoga Photography & Headshots in the Studio - Portraits of Yogis
Being a yoga instructor is more than just teaching class – you also are running a small business, and have to promote it as such. Yoga photography can be vital to the practicing yoga teacher for social media, a headshot for their website, or to promote a yoga retreat. Michael Benabib, yoga photographer, captures you in your favorite poses, as well as a more traditionally styled headshot to help you promote your business.
One tip to the aspiring yogi photographer - get down low! Photograph on your belly if you need to! You can shoot yoga photography in the studio or (if weather permits) amongst nature, for a unique and beautiful full body portrait.
The above portraits were taken in Michael Benabib's studio in midtown manhattan.

Kelton Global is a research consultancy firm with offices in Silicon Alley, New York City. While having both qualitative and quantitative data analysts on their team, their ultimate goal is to provide data analysis that is readable and easy to interpret by the client. Clients of theirs have included Bloomingdales, Viacom & Target.
This form of data journalism is growing more and more popular in the digital era. Kelton Global's branding is approachable and demonstrates out of the box thinking. As a result, they required corporate headshots that had visual variety and were a little more creative than the average studio shoot. On location portrait photography was the decided route of action; studio portraiture just wouldn't do. Executive Photos NYC Photographer Michael Benabib went on a walk in downtown chelsea with each new employee and photographed them in a variety of unique locations, conveying a unique part of their personalities.
Luckily, Executive Photos was lucky to have a client that understood and appreciated the value of quality images. As written on the Kelton Global blog, Sarah Stone writes, “If imaginative empathy is fueled by great photography, then we can build the empathy habit by looking at powerful images every day. By pausing briefly to consider the feelings, lives and experiences of people we view only from a distance, we practice imaginative empathy, broaden our range of understanding, and become better 21st century marketers.”
