Commercial photographers humanising the corporate world

In such a competitive world many companies, large and small, are humanising themselves in their marketing in order to appeal to customers. One of the ways they do this is by using staff in their marketing materials through commercial photography.

A large Yorkshire accountancy firm for example, could use photos of its accountants and senior management in its annual report. Using this imagery will instantly remove a barrier that separates the firm from being a faceless organisation to one that has real people behind the brand. Plus clients get to see who is looking after their money. Other companies have taken corporate photography that one step further. Think of the recent NatWest advertising campaign which features staff in their ad campaigns in a bid to humanise the organisation. By using friendly helpful staff, it promotes the bank as one that is more customer focused.

Companies can use images of staff as they go about their daily duties such as speaking on the phone, strategising in a meeting or simply typing on their computer. While they all sound like pretty ordinary activities, using these types of images in marketing materials presents the organisation as a people business, one that cares about staff, and one that has a personality.

The aim is to let potential customers more easily identify with the business by seeing real people going about their real jobs – just like them. Commercial Photograhers in New York City, can help a company visually translate its brand through this type of corporate photography.

How To Find The Right Corporate Photographer

Business portraits on location.

Business portraits on location.

With the new age of the world wide web a corporate portrait is more important than ever. Although you may think of it as an unavoidable necessity it can be an important way to establish your brand. As a Corporate Photographer, http://www.executivephotosnyc.com for more than 25 years I have an opinion about the subject.

The first step is to look and judge the work of different photographers and find one whose style speaks in some way to you. Essentially there are 2 types of corporate photos, the studio look against a backdrop and the environmental style shot on location. Both types are appropriate for different uses. Often the studio style is used in large corporations where the photo must match the style of other pre-existing photos. The more modern style of corporate portraits is the environmental portrait where the photo is taken in a natural business setting. These photos give credibility to you and your business.
Because the portrait is a Collaboration between a subject and photographer it is important to call the photographer and speak with them directly to get a feel for their personality.
Once you have chosen the photographer there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself for your photo session. Arrive at the shoot well rested. Bring at least one change of clothes. Solids are better than tight patterns. Women might want to ask the photographer if they have a hairstylist/makeup person they work with.
Hopefully with this simple primer on the subject you will be on your way toward a successful shoot.

How To Find a Corporate Photographer. Part One.

So you have just been given the task of putting together or updating the website for your company. Often this involves finding a web designer, writers and a photographer. Often web designers will already have an established relationship with a corporate photographer. Often not. Corporate portraits are a specialty that is likely a fashion or wedding photographer is not appropriate for. On the personal relationship level there is an approach to dealing with executives that is successful which includes engaging the subject with conversation while still maintaining a level of respect. On the aesthetic level the photographer must be able to convey the uniqueness of your company. Often this is achieved by the use of the environmental style of portraiture. These are photos that are shot on location at your offices and include the working area as a setting for the subject.
